Ely is a small city with a big spread of venue types, from grand heritage interiors to open Fenland marquees ten minutes out. The decor that works in one of them won't work in another. Here's how I approach styling across the venues I'm booked at most often.
The Old Hall is the closest thing Ely has to a flagship wedding venue, and it brings its own beauty before you've put a single stem on a table. Panelled rooms, a glass-walled Orangery, manicured gardens, and that view of the cathedral on the horizon. The mistake I see couples make here is over-decorating the interiors and competing with the architecture. I always pull it back. Tall pedestal arrangements either side of the Orangery aisle, taper candles in restrained brass holders, white linen, charger plates, and compact centrepieces that won't block your guests' view across the table. For the outdoor pavilion ceremony, a free-standing floral arch in cream and blush picks up the garden palette and photographs beautifully against the lakes. Less, done properly, always wins here.
The Fenland marquee scene is a different job entirely. You're decorating a blank canvas under canvas, often with big skies, riverside or meadow backdrops, and far fewer rules than a heritage venue. This is where I'll lean into hanging florals, fairy light canopies running the full length of the marquee, long trestle tables with eucalyptus runners, candle clusters, and a freestanding ceremony arch (oak pergolas, willow trees, and Sperry tent poles all work as natural anchors). For colour, I usually steer couples towards warm seasonal palettes (sage, terracotta, dusty pink, soft amber) that feel right against the Fens rather than fighting them. Bring height: empty marquee ceilings make the room feel bigger and colder than it needs to be. A statement chandelier or hanging foliage installation transforms the space.
Poets House is the right pick for couples wanting an intimate, central Ely wedding within walking distance of the cathedral, and it deserves a different decor register again. Boutique Georgian interiors, smaller guest counts, courtyard garden: this is where styling needs to feel considered rather than abundant. I usually recommend an intimate top table or compact rounds with low centrepieces (the rooms are smaller, so anything tall blocks the conversation), garden roses or peonies in a soft seasonal palette, and brass or smoked-glass accents that suit the period bones of the building. For the courtyard drinks reception, hanging foliage and candle lanterns turn the space into something properly memorable.
Riverside venues with cathedral views need decor that lets the view do most of the work. The Maltings has a brilliant position on the river beside the cathedral, and the brief I'd give any couple booking it is the same: don't crowd the windows. Long banqueting tables running parallel to the river, low compact arrangements, mirrored runners catching the light, and plenty of candlelight. Spring and summer call for fresh greens and pastels; autumn and winter, for deeper jewel tones, copper, and amber-glass votives. Cathedral-view venues photograph best when the styling is restrained enough that the building still leads the shot.
Ask any of the hundreds of couples I've worked with, and they'll tell you I love my job.
I started this wedding decoration business with one goal: to take the stress out of hiring the right wedding decor. The level of detail I put into item selection and design allows me to add a special touch to your big day.
From the moment you walk down the aisle into your ceremony room, up until your last drink at the reception, I'll make sure every part of the venue meets your standards.
If you're ready to plan the perfect wedding, let me know. I can work with you on the cost and which decoration package is best for you.

The Old NeneA small look at the atmosphere, florals, and finishing touches we bring together for our couples.
Ely is one of the smallest cathedral cities in England, and one of the most photogenic places in the country to get married. The cathedral sits on the skyline from miles out across the Fens, and almost every venue worth booking in the area uses it as a backdrop in some way.
Our job is to build decor that earns its place in those rooms. As your Ely wedding decorator, we listen to what you want the day to feel like, and then shape the styling around the venue you've actually booked.
If you're looking for wedding decor hire in Ely that's considered, beautifully finished, and properly tailored to the space, Events By Beau can help.
Here's how we work. We agree a design with you, share a clear timeline, and handle all the coordination with your venue so you don't have to.
On the day, we're first in and last out: laying linens, dressing chairs, placing candles, arranging florals, and moving pieces between the ceremony and reception so the day flows cleanly from one space to the next. We label boxes, bring spares, and leave the venue the way we found it — because the small things matter most on a wedding morning.
Our design starts with mood. We'll suggest seasonal florals, hand-tied bouquets, layered table arrangements, focal centrepieces, and statement backdrops where the venue calls for them. From there we add the details that make a room feel intentional rather than busy: textured accessories, useful props, and height that pulls the eye.
How you book us is flexible. Choose straightforward hire of the pieces you need, or go end-to-end with design, styling, and on-the-day coordination. Whether the brief leans classic, romantic, festival, or modern, we'll keep the thread consistent across every space.
We've styled weddings across Ely and the wider Cambridgeshire area — Jacobean manor houses with cathedral views, Fenland marquee venues by the river, Georgian boutique hotels in the city centre, and blank-canvas farms on the road towards Cambridge.
Share your date, a few images you love, and the venue you've chosen. We'll come back with options that fit your space and budget: the right pieces, the right pace, and a room that feels like the start of your marriage.
Full pricing is on the package cards above. For a rough guide, most Ely weddings I style with full decor packages sit between £2,200 and £4,500, depending on guest numbers and the level of styling. Marquee weddings at venues like Gravel Farm or Willow Grange Farm tend to sit at the higher end because you're dressing more space. Bespoke packages start from £5,000.
Yes. I cover the whole of Ely and the wider Cambridgeshire area, including Cambridge, the Fens, and the villages out towards Newmarket and Soham.
I've styled weddings at venues including The Old Hall Ely, Poets House, The Maltings, Gravel Farm, Willow Grange Farm, and The Meadow Garden. If your venue isn't on that list, tell me where you're getting married. I'll have either decorated or worked at something similar.
12 to 18 months is standard, especially for peak season (May to September). I take a limited number of weddings each year, and Saturday dates between June and August book up first. That said, if your date is closer than that, please still get in touch. I occasionally have last-minute availability.
Absolutely. Every package can be tailored around your specific venue, colour scheme, and guest count. Popular add-ons include charger plates, ceremony arches, hanging floral installations, and flower walls. If you want something completely bespoke, my custom service starts at £5,000.
Yes, this is one of my favourite parts of the job. Blank-canvas Fenland venues like Gravel Farm and Willow Grange Farm need everything bringing in, from ceremony backdrops to table styling to lighting. I'll work directly with your marquee company on rigging and timings, and I bring spares for everything because outdoor venues throw curveballs (wind, late deliveries, last-minute layout changes).
Plenty of Cambridgeshire's heritage venues have rules around open flame, rigging, and wall fixings, and Ely Cathedral has its own strict requirements if you're getting married there. I've worked within all of them, and I'll check with your venue before finalising the design. If they won't allow real candles, I'll use high-quality LED tapers. If ceiling rigging isn't an option, I'll build a free-standing floral structure instead. Restrictions shape the design, but they rarely kill it.
Yes. If you've sourced your own decor and just need help dressing the venue on the day, I offer a "lend a hand" service from £1000 plus delivery. Popular with DIY couples and Fenland marquee weddings.
