Every Manchester venue has its own personality, and the decor that suits a Gothic civic hall won't suit a converted cotton warehouse. Here's how I approach styling across the city's most-booked venue types.

For industrial venues like Victoria Warehouse, The Castlefield Rooms, and Yes Manchester

Manchester's industrial venues are the ones that pull most of my couples in, and for good reason. They've got character built into the walls. The mistake I see couples make is trying to soften every hard edge with white drape and pastels (please don't). The opposite usually works better. Let the exposed brick and steel beams lead, and balance them with warm candlelight, soft florals, and low-hanging Edison-bulb installations. Trailing eucalyptus down long banquet tables, amber-glass votives in clusters of three, and a single floral installation in a warm palette of burnt orange or terracotta can transform these spaces without fighting them. Less drape, more glow.

For Gothic and Victorian civic venues like Manchester Town Hall and The Monastery

Grand historic interiors come with their own beauty, which means the decor needs to complement rather than compete. Stuffing The Monastery's nave with florals fights centuries of architecture. I usually recommend a statement ceremony arch that echoes the room's proportions, tall pedestal arrangements either side of the aisle, and restrained but elegant table styling: white linen, charger plates, tapered candles, and compact centrepieces that don't block your guests' view of each other. Heritage venues also tend to have strict rules around open flame and rigging, so we'll plan around those early. Less, done beautifully, always wins in these rooms.

For Edwardian hotels and grand ballrooms like The Midland, King Street Townhouse, and Manchester Hall

The city's hotel ballrooms reward a more romantic register. Period plasterwork, chandeliers, and panelled walls already do half the design work, so the table styling and floral choices need to feel layered rather than loud. I tend to suggest tall floral arrangements alternating with low compositions for height variation, garden roses, ranunculus, and astrantia in a soft palette of blush, ivory, and antique green, and considered details like menu cards, charger plates, and personalised place settings. Fairy light canopies work beautifully here if the ceiling allows. If it doesn't, low-set candelabras and bud vases create the same intimate mood at table level.

For Cheshire country estates and barns like Merrydale Manor, Colshaw Hall, and Heaton House Farm

A good portion of Manchester couples end up tying the knot just outside the city, in the Cheshire countryside. These venues lean romantic and traditional, with private gardens, mature parkland, and outdoor ceremony options that ask for a country garden treatment. Abundant greenery, garden roses, sweet peas (in season), aisle markers running across the lawn, and a free-standing floral arch against the landscape work beautifully. Natural colour palettes of cream, sage, and blush feel right here. Barn ceilings are made for fairy light canopies and hanging floral installations, and the longer setup window most barns allow means you can go more ambitious with installation pieces than you can in a tight city venue.
